Sato Pinot Gris L'Atypique 2018
Varietal: Pinot Gris
Alcohol: 14.2%
Region: Central Otago, New Zealand
Appreciated by most of Pinot Gris Organic Orange Wine drinkers.
Skin-contact/orange Pinot Gris. Very fine and chalky. Beautifully rich and rounded from the time spent in oak (without having imparted any oak flavour). One of New Zealand's best examples of orange wine, without a doubt.
This wine comes from "TOSQ Vineyard" at the foothill of Mt. Pisa, planted on loess over schist derived fine sandy loam with river gravels, schist and quartz. The Vineyard is looked after with no pesticides, herbicides, systemic fungicides or inorganic fertilisers used.
The grapes were hand harvested on the 9th of March of 2018, then natural wild yeast fermented and kept in the skins for 34 days before being pressed to aged French oak and aged for 20 months using no commercial enzymes, bacteria, or additives except for <20mg/L of sulphites before bottling on the 29th of November of 2019 without fining or filtration. Was produced on total 3012 bottles.
