Maravedi Blanco 2018
Varietal: Chardonnay, Airen
Alcohol: 11.5%
Region: Castille, Spain
Great value for money Organic Wine. Some of the nicest Chardonnay under $20 we have tried.
A highly versatile, unoaked Chardonnay with Airén, from old Spanish dry-farmed organic vineyards. Pale platinum, showing intense aromas of starfruit and pear over a subtle, leesy, mineral note. Medium bodied, with good concentration and a round, juicy mouth feel. A good length that is supported by its acidity and a moderated alcohol.
Maravedí - the name of an ancient Spanish coin – symbolises the value of preserving the ancestral vineyards of the beautiful Spanish highlands and is produced from organically farmed old vineyards in Castile.
The continental climate, with sunny days and cool nights, allow us to achieve intense fruit and excellent varietal definition, while retaining remarkable freshness.
The organic grapes are picked at night and in the early morning hours and shipped quickly to a state-of-the-art winery for a short pre-fermentation cold maceration, followed by pneumatic pressing and fermentation in stainless steel at around 16ºC to preserve fruit character. Malolactic fermentation is prevented by chilling. Wines remain shortly on their fine lees before bottling.
This wine is a great option on it's own as an aperitif and a nice cheese board. For a meal it would go very well with grilled fish and light dishes.
