A charming, medium-bodied. Ripe fruity notes of raspberries, peppery herbs, hints of violets and flowers with a subtle finish of tobacco and leather. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years.

Gilles now owns 15 hectares of vineyard, mostly in Crozes-Hermitage where their vines are close to Chapoutier's Meysonniers, and Jaboulet's Thalabert. Gilles Robin took over the running of this vineyard in 1996, with the freedom to produce his own wines. With a history of winegrowing spanning four generations, Gilles' aim was to realise the potential of the 35 year old vines. He immediately used only natural fertilizers and reduced yields to just 40 hectolitres per hectare to give a richer concentration of fruit and quality. Gilles' vineyard now extends to Saint Joseph (where he makes a tiny volume) and Hermitage, the core vineyard averages forty years old, and the wines gain in subtlety and balance with every vintage.

This wine would be beautifully paired with some Roquefort blue cheese and also with duck breast with poached peaches.

Organic

Organic wine are grapes grown on an organic vineyard without genetic modification (GMO’s), and without routine spraying of synthetic pesticides or herbicides. It is a holistic style of viticulture that prioritises the health of the soil and surrounding habitat focusing on long-term nourishment for the land. The winemaking process is also done with less additives and preservatives such as sulphur dioxide - also known as sulphites.

Certified Organic

Certified organic wine are grapes grown on an certified organic vineyard that has been checked, audited and certified by a trusted certification agency with a set of standards to comply with. Organic wine is made without genetic modification (GMO’s), and without routine spraying of synthetic pesticides or herbicides on the vineyards. It is a holistic style of viticulture that prioritises the health of the soil and surrounding habitat focusing on long-term nourishment for the land. The winemaking process is also done with less additives and preservatives such as sulphur dioxide - also known as sulphites.

Low Sulphites

Low sulphite practices are when winemakers either use no added sulphites or very minimal quantities during viticulture, winemaking and bottling. This means the wine you drink tastes roughly the same as the day it got bottled. This is great for people with sensitivities to sulphites.

Vegan

Vegan wines are the absence of animal derived ingredients. Common non-vegan ingredients used in some winemaking are blood and bone marrow, chitin (fibers from crustacean shells), fish oil, isinglass - made from dried fish bladders, gelatine, casein (a protein derived from cow’s milk) and albumin from egg whites. These are mostly used for the filtration process. It can be difficult to spot a vegan drink by the label as producers are under no obligation to list animal products used in the production process.

Biodynamic

Biodynamic wine uses all the practices of organic viticulture and adds onto this, more complex farming practices that utilise the astrological calendar and elemental forces. Each biodynamic calendar day coincides with one of the four classical elements of Earth, Fire, Air and Water that have been used since before Plato’s era: Fruit Days: Best days for harvesting grapes, Root Days: Ideal days for pruning, Flower Days: Leave the vineyard alone on these days, Leaf Days: Ideal days for watering plants. It's believed that Biodynamic wine tends to have notably exceptional flavours, appearance and overall quality.

Sustainable

The aim of sustainable wines is for the viticulture and winemaking process to be environmentally conscious and socially responsible - whilst maintaining economic feasibility and high quality wines. This includes building and maintaining healthy soil, managing water wisely, minimising air, water and climate pollution and promoting biodiversity by keeping wild ecosystems intact instead of clearing land etc. When grapes are grown, harvested and made into wine these environmental factors are prioritised to avoid damaging impacts - without sacrificing productivity or profitability.

Natural

Natural wine is an approach that doesn’t sit in a well-defined category but more of a set of agreed-upon characteristics. In its simplest form, natural wine is made from fermented grape juice, where the grapes are hand-picked without being sprayed with pesticides and herbicides. The wines are made with native yeast and minimal intervention in the vineyards and in the cellar. They use no or low amounts of sulphites.

Gluten Free

Gluten Free is the absence of the seed storage protein (gluten) found in certain cereal grains. Wine is naturally gluten-free, however some practices include using gluten during the filtration process or aging it in oak barrels sealed with wheat paste, which could add tiny amounts of gluten to wine. Gluten free wines are best suited for drinkers who are highly allergic to gluten.
